This section of the syllabus
assesses candidates' abilities to communicate effectively in a range of oral situations
and to plan and deliver a presentation.

This section
of the syllabus assesses candidates' abilities to use standard forms of written
business communications and to extract and present information accurately and
in a reorganised format using appropriate and accurate English.

Form of Assessment
1.
Section One of the syllabus will be assessed by centres. The oral
sections should be taped on audio/video cassette. The tape may be requested by
OCR, together with copies of the presentation material, for sample moderation.
This component of the examination carries 25% of the marks available.
2.
Section Two of
the syllabus will be assessed by a 2hour examination. The examination carries
75% of the marks available for the assessment.
2.1 The marks
available for each question will be stated on the question paper. Each of the
individual components of layout, content, presentation and use of English will
be assessed in all questions.
2.2 Candidates may use either open or closed punctuation in their responses as long as the style chosen is used consistently throughout the task.
Results
and Certification
1.
Results will he
graded Distinction, Credit, Pass or Fail
2.
Candidates will be
required to pass both the oral and the written part of the examination.
2.1 In order to
achieve a Pass, candidates will be required to achieve 50% of the marks available in both parts of the examination.
2.2 In order to
achieve a Credit candidates will be required to
achieve 65% of the marks available in
both parts of the examination.
2.3 In order to
achieve a Distinction, candidates will be required to achieve 75% of the marks
available in both parts of the examination.
