The Economy and the Environment

Questions for David Miliband MP, Secretary of State, DEFRA from Chair, Sustainable Staffordshire, answered during his visit to Staffordshire Wildlife Trust on 28th September 2006, organised by David Kidney MP

1.      Do you accept that it is our collective failure to account for the non-human elements of the economy that has led to environmental resource depletion and problems such as climate change?

2.      How do you want DEFRA to assist the other Departments, especially those with economic responsibilities (particularly The Treasury, DTI and Department of Transport), to resist public pressure to deal with current problems in ways that are likely to make this country and the global economy even less sustainable and add to future environmental, social and economic problems?
