Future Plans for M6 Motorway

Questions for Stephen Ladyman MP, Minister for Roads

1. As the depletion of fossil fuel resources, especially oil, and the climate change that has been the unintended consequence of this human activity is currently causing economic, social and environmental problems and these are likely to become even more acute in the foreseeable future, surely the construction and subsequent use of any expansion to the M6 Motorway will make each of these problems worse?

2. Might it be better to tackle the current congestion on the Motorway network, especially the M6 between the West Midlands and North West regions, by traffic management, particularly considering the competing demands for social and economic use?

3. What are the Minister’s (and his Department’s) plans for reducing and even reversing adverse climate change, especially by helping road users to understand and reduce the negative impacts that they are responsible for?

4. How does the Minister think that Sustainable Staffordshire (and other bodies dedicated to linking voluntary action with that of government at all levels) can help in delivering action to reduce and reverse adverse climate change?
