Efficiency - the route to sustainability

Efficiency & consumption

Efficiency is measured as a ratio between significant inputs and significant outputs - the greater the output in relation to the input, the greater the efficiency (Robertson, 1998). Thus, if all output is useable absolute efficiency would have been achieved and nothing would have been consumed.

How you can take control - our influence over the direction of change

Have a strategy containing simple and possible solutions e.g.:

  1. Get the most out of existing resources
  2. Influence change to renewable energy via demand (e.g. The estimated potential for renewable energy in the West Midlands of England is 16-18%. Only 2% is produced at present but Energy suppliers are unwilling to provide the capacity without evidence of demand)
  3. Move forward in other areas by using your purchasing policy
  4. Aim for absolute efficiency - i.e. all output is useable
