Sustainable Staffordshire

This organisation was created in 1990 as 'The Staffordshire Environmental Forum' to audit environmental problems and plan a strategy for change that subsequently influenced the decisions of the County Council and other participating Bodies. Following the production of Staffordshire's 'Black Book' it has continued to enable professionals and volunteers to meet on a regular basis. Participants include members of the LA21 teams, academics, campaigners and those taking action at home or in business. The Forum (which is usually held in October), the Annual General Meeting (usually held in March – see report for 2005), the County Show (in May/June) and the Youth Forum (held in July for young people from secondary schools throughout Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent – follow the hyperlink for a report and pictures from the 2005 Youth Forum) are the main events but there are also four other briefing meetings to provide useful background information on topical issues for members and visitors. It also gives Awards to individuals (such as Ian Mitchell & Pam Prestwood, who both received recognition at the Forum in 2003) and organisations that have made a notable contribution to making Staffordshire more sustainable. Although Sustainable Staffordshire is an independent organisation with its own constitution, it has been generously supported throughout its existence by Staffordshire County Council, which provides its permanent Secretariat to support the work of the voluntary managing committee drawn from its members. The Executive Committee (elected at the AGM on 16th March 05) are pictured above left and below is a selection of images from the most recent Forums held in October 03 & October 2004 and the AGM’s in March 04 & 05.
