Norman Wainwright - tributes to an inspirational athlete and person

To the left is an early picture from Norman's career as an international swimmer, probably taken when he was aged twenty & competing in the European Championships at Magdeburgh in 1934

The second photograph (left) was taken in 1996, aboard the narrow boat Cloward's Way, which was the last time he was able to take to the water.

Norman Wainwright (born 4 July 1914 - died 2 May 2000) was a champion freestyle swimmer and a quiet inspiration to the people who knew him. The documents below give an insight into his achievements and his character.
