Divine Love & the
existence of evil
A question that one Christian friend asked (on behalf of all of us) was 'how can the God who loved the world so much that he gave His only Son allow evil?' The answer that follows is profound and answers yet other questions and also explains why prayer is not a 'cop out'. I thank God for letting me in on the communication!
God not only gave His Son in love but loves his creation so much that He experiences it through all parts of it. He is truly with us in every instant: seeing through our eyes, hearing through our ears and sensing through every other sense - including intuition, which lets us perceive the All with Him. That this is so, each of us can know in those instants when we experience the beauty and wonder of our surroundings and feel that it was made for us. It is, in the sense that God is the Creator and the All of it and being all love creates the love that flows from All to part and back to All.
The problems arise when love turns inward and starts to feel that all that love should be directed toward satisfying the passing thoughts of the temporary body, which seems to be the observer. It is this that, for example, makes me (speaking as Paul), in my quest for wisdom, get irrationally angry with those I perceive as being ignorant. It makes those in seeking to be 'the best' as groups (whether as football team or Church community) rubbish the efforts of others trying to do the same. It also explains why well educated men can fly an aeroplane into a building to teach a lesson to representatives of those who they believe do not think as they think about how to 'do good' to others.
The solution is not to be found in the use of bombs and guns. Governments cannot fight terror, or any other evil, in this way. The only cure comes from realising that God is with us always and by asking Him to ensure that love will not be turned inwards through us but, instead, will always be directed outwards. If we hold to this desire, God will know before the thought becomes word and direct all His love to make it come true. In this way the flow of love will grow stronger and the world will be renewed. It is never too late for this to come true and, because the Creation is already complete, never doubt that it is already accomplished in the divine mind of the Creator.
