The Emerging Pattern

  1. Selfishness is humankind's greatest problem.
  2. But, to meet the challenges of the future (economic, social and environmental) requires global co-operation.
  3. Wealth and power, which are seen as the solutions to all problems, are subject to selfishness and it destroys their ability to help.
  4. Love, which is already a factor in economic and social activity, is the only remaining answer and can break-through deadlocks caused by the selfish use of power and wealth.
  5. However, it will take a human reflection of God's love to achieve this.
  6. Jesus' teaching, example and loving presence has enabled us to survive the worst excesses of our selfishness so far but too many people (including some in the church) are looking outside in the world for examples and solutions.
  7. Our Lord will take a more external hand to show us how to live in love and co-operation across our current selfish barriers of country, religion and perceived differences.
  8. We must learn that we are all equally God's children and are loved equally.
  9. If we love God, we must love each other.
  10. But we must ask God for love, to make a beginning.
