Mid-winter Birds

Below is a record of the observation of bird activity in a suburban garden in Trentham, Staffordshire, UK around dawn on 21st December 2004 (the shortest day and the longest night). At the start of the observation (07.45) it was still fairly dark but it had become fully light in the 30 minutes that elapsed until the garden was full of birds feeding.

08.07   Dunnock feeding on ground (after Magpies have departed)

08.10   Blue Tit and Chaffinches feeding on Bird Table

0815    Several species of birds (including Thrushes, Tits and Finches) feeding in the garden
